The game

Houses are the boundary. A window gets you out.

Street cricket, the way it’s really played. Houses are the boundary, a window gets you out, and the whole mohalla is watching from the balconies.

The bowler runs in. Your left thumb slides the batter into line. As the ball arrives, your right thumb picks the shot: leg side, straight, off side, or loft it over the field. Perfect timing gets full power and a slow-motion replay. Mistime it and you edge it to the keeper, or worse.
